Ants
Ants are social insects that live in colonies that can number several hundred
thousand workers or more. Some species have more than one queen. When these pests invade a home there could be
ten, a hundred, or even a thousand ants inside. Most ants live outside in underground nests. Therefore, a key
to controlling ants is identification. However, due to many species present in our area, proper identification can be difficult
to the untrained eye. Your Barnes PMP (pest management proessional) can identify your problem and recommend a treatment
procedure for that particular pest.

Roaches
German roaches are small roaches that can cause serious problems inside
a house. These roaches produce allergens that can cause severe respiratory problems for people with asthma. German
roaches contaminate food, dishes, toothbrushes and other household items they crawl over. These pests usually require
monthly treatments. Large roaches such as the American or Smokey Brown roach are an outside roach that come inside searching
for food, water and shelter. They usually cannot survive inside unless they find a food and water source such
as a leaky pipe.

Rats and Mice
Different species of rats, such as the Roof Rat, will live in attics while
"warfrats" prefer tunnels in the ground. Rodents damage property and food. The contaminate food and dishes with
droppings, urine trails and fur. They also have a tendency to nibble and thus damage food products, building materials,
and wiring in attics. Mice are very curious and will explore new objects they come across. Rats are shy around
new objects so they can be more difficult to control than mice.
